This is something to add to your hair journey story, depending on your hair type. We should probably share a post for those who are starting their hair journey to help everyone along. This post is just as important especially with those with type 4 hair (coily and kinky hair).
This method of hair washing is where you use a conditioner or deep conditioner followed by shampoo rather than the traditional steps of shampoo followed by conditioner. Yes, it's different and needs some testing for your own hair. But if you need to detangle as much as we do, this might work for you. Type 4 hair is usually dry and tangled so shampooing first may really cause more tangles.. Enter reverse hair washing, it helps make hair softer and easier to wash. So if you have lots of coils and kinks your hair will feel nourished after reverse washing (so using a conditioner as a pre-shampoo) 😚
SO...SHOULD YOU USE A CONDITIONER BEFORE A SHAMPOO?
This method of hair washing is particularly beneficial for finer or oilier hair types but can work for other hair types too. The shampoo washes away the heaviness of the conditioner or deep conditioner yet doesn't limit its hydrating benefits.
HOW TO DO REVERSE WASHING
Even though you can start with dry hair when reverse washing you might want to dampen your hair with a water spray bottle first. Damp hair will open up your cuticles. Apply the conditioner or deep conditioning mask and leave it in for about 30 minutes.
Making sure you finger detangle and put into twists, put your shower cap on, or a heat cap on for 30 minutes.
After this, you can go ahead and ut Princthe conditioner in the shower and shampoo your hair (focussing on your scalp, let the residue run through till the ends of your hair.
WHY THIS METHOD IS AWESOME?
Using a conditioner or deep conditioner in the first step of your hair routine (as you would a 'pre-shampoo treatment') helps detangle 4c hair thoroughly - so fewer tangles during washing!
PROTECTS HAIR FROM SHAMPOO
The conditioner coats your hair in a protective layer of moisture and can help fight against the stripping effects of shampoo. This is not the case with the Camille Rose Sweet Ginger Cleansing Rinse - but if you use another shampoo just make sure they won't dry your hair out. Read your labels (look for sulfate-free).
DOESN'T LEAVE HAIR FEELING WEIGHED DOWN
Reverse washing works well if you have fine hair as it won't leave your hair feeling weighed down as it provides moisture without residue.
Reverse washing (conditioning pre-shampoo) helps save time with detangling, especially as you apply the conditioner, detangle hair, and shampoo while its still in chunky twists.
What a dream! You will be able to retain more length because you would have saved your hair from breaking during a rough detangling session.
There you go, hope this tip has given you something to try during your weekly wash day.
